On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the Village of Brown Deer hosted its very first community-wide Black History Program. The theme: “We Are Black History – We Are Brown Deer.” The village took this time to celebrate the month and recognize three Black History Makers who live in and/or have a business in Brown Deer. This year they honored: Angela Walters, past President of the Milwaukee Association of Realtors (the first black women to hold this position); Joanne Williams, former news anchor for WITI TV-6, and Dr. Ramard Wright, veterinarian and owner of Wright’s Animal Clinic. Other highlights of the program were local singers and musicians, African drummers and dancers from MADD (Milwaukee Area Drummers and Dancers) and host for the program Spectrum One news anchor Sachelle Reed. Dinner was catered by Perkins Boyz on the Grill and desserts provided by Tiffany’s Dessert Bar. The program was supported and sponsored financially by generous donations to the Brown Deer Community Foundation earmarked for the Black History Program. This year’s event was at capacity. The village is looking forward to this program being an annual event to be held in a much larger facility to accommodate all who want to attend.
