In 2023, Pastor Martha Austin (left photo) became the first African American woman with her face on a cake box. Austin, the founder of Memah’s Gourmet Delights which launched on March 31, 2023, celebrated with a start-up event at Sonesta Milwaukee West Hotel in Wauwatosa. This is Austin’s first venture into mass production. Austin was inducted into the Wisconsin Black History Society on March 21, 2023, and she is now listed in their historical archives. The event was intended to honor the legacy of Austin as well as the expansion of her company into the retail sector.
Austin makes every one of her cakes with a heavenly touch of love. Founded in 2013, Martha set out on a journey to bake her way into the heart of Milwaukee. From her baking to catering ventures, each of Memah’s cakes, pies, and meals is full of homemade goodness with a dash of her spectacular personality. The mix was designed and created by Austin for mass production and retail beginning in 2023.
