On Friday, October 22, 2021, the NAACP Milwaukee Branch hosted their “Annual Freedom Fund Dinner” at the Wisconsin Center, 400 West Wisconsin Ave. The theme for this year’s dinner was “Always Fighting Forward,” and the keynote speaker was Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison (top left photo), who was instrumental in forming the prosecuting team responsible for the historic and unprecedented conviction of former police officer Derek Chauvin for George Floyd’s murder. This year’s Freedom Fund Dinner was all the more important as last year’s event was held virtually due to the pandemic. In addition, 2020 was the year of Floyd’s murder, which ignited the Black Lives Matter movement and spurred protests across the globe; mobilizing everyday citizens and activists from all walks of life. The event was MC’ed by WNOV Community Relations and Radio Personality Faithe Colas and Dr. Gloria Pitchford-Nicholas (lower left photo) served as Freedom Fund Dinner Chairperson.
