On Sunday, December 29, 2024, faith leaders and community organizations came together for the “Forever in our Hearts: Milwaukee Homicide Candlelight Vigil,” held at Ephesians Missionary Baptist Church, 2412 N. 6th St. Family members and friends of those impacted by violence lit candles and read the names of victims in the city this past year.

Northcott Neighborhood House Executive Director Tony Kearney is one of those behind the annual event. He says it provides a space for healing, remembrance, and support for families and friends affected by senseless violence in Milwaukee.

The vigil took place after a violent few days in Milwaukee. The instances involved a six-year-old on Christmas day, and two teens who were shot and killed, and a 14-year-old was shot and injured on Dec. 28.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson joined other elected leaders, including US Congresswoman Gwen Moore at the vigil. Who addressed the recent violence.
