On Saturday, May 25, 2024, it was about staying connected – young people connecting with elders. The Educational Consortium, Milwaukee North Sunrise Rotary Club and Soroptimist International- Milwaukee joined forces to present their “2024 Seior Prom Gala Awards” at Alverno College.
These connections provide emotional well-being, mental stimulation, a sense of purpose, better physical health. Intergenerational connections can also help to develop important social skills, such as communication, collaboration and problem-solving.
Attendees were escorted by their adult children and grandchildren to the prom. Many had never attended their high school senior prom.
Rev. Dextra Hadnot, Pastor of Holy Temple Missionary Baptist Church fed the audience with spiritual word on the importance of young people staying connected to elders that can provide love, safe environments, history, and wisdom.
Additionally, Shannon Sims from TMJ4 assisted Ruby Dent and Gregory Williams from the Rotary Club to present community service awards to Maurice and Yashica Wince, owners of the Sherman Park Grocery Store; Myron Smith, owner of Yum Yum Fish & Chicken; Farina Brooks, Founder/Executive Director of Dream Team United MKE; and Sister MacCanon Brown, Executive Director of The MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary. The final and most prestigious award was bestowed upon prom king and queen Michael and Ariel Rogers for their ministry service and heart for instilling God’s love in children.
