500 Fathers stand up against violence

June 23, 2016

[slideshow_deploy id=’18632′]

On Friday June 17, 2016 Common Council President Ashanti Hamilton and
Alderman Khalif J. Rainey, along with Mayor Tom Barrett and more than
a hundred Milwaukee fathers attended a rally, to helping put a stop to violence
in the community. The event was hosted in Moody Park, which is
located in Alderman Rainey’s district. The rally was held to call on Milwaukee
fathers to help bring positive change to Milwaukee, by taking an
oath to help put an end to violence on the streets of Milwaukee and help
protect our communities. Mayor Barrett’s Fatherhood Initiative partnered
with a large number of Milwaukee agencies to call for a “First Annual Safe
Summer Father’s Day Weekend,” due to the unusually high numbers of
violent incidents that have already taken place in the city and the summer is
just getting started. Pictured at the event are (from left) Common Council
President Ashanti Hamilton; Alderman Russell Stamper; Milwaukee City
Treasurer Spencer Coggs; Anthony Courtney, Alderman Khalif J. Rainey
and many of the Milwaukee fathers who attended the event.
