What causes poverty in Wisconsin?
Why do some people succeed and others stay stuck?
The answers to those questions and more will be discussed as The Social Development Commission hosts its annual Summit On Poverty in partnership with WISCAP’s annual Poverty Matters! conference. Through this partnership, the event will bring together people from all over the state to address our theme; “Sharing Our Stories, Cultivating Our Solutions: Closing the Rural- Urban Divide.”
No more “us versus them.” At the 2018 summit, we plan to explore the shared experience of poverty. In some ways, poverty feels the same whether you live up north or in the heart of Wisconsin’s big cities.
Participants will be challenged to examine national, regional and local systems and consider how they shape policy and our collective response. By identifying the structural underpinnings of poverty, we believe a well-informed and honest discussion can take place. Ultimately, we hope this leads to more effective anti-poverty policies and strategies.
Don’t miss this powerful event.
