Centenarian Molly Place celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday, June 30, 2018 with family and friends in Milwaukee. Ms. Place was one 16 children born in Bellefontaine, MS and moved to Louisville in 1941. In 1952, she relocated to Milwaukee. She married Purgi Lewis in 1968. She later married Robert Place. She is the mother of one son, W.J. Gaines.
Ms. Place was a very skilled domestic employee. During her youth, she worked for three prominent families: First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, as well as the Pabst and Schlitz brewery families. She was also a seamstress, an upholsterer, cook, nurse’s aide, and shoe repairer. She enjoys playing pool and has won trophies in competition. She enjoys preparing special meals for her family, such as turnip greens with ham hocks, cornbread, coconut cake and sweet potato pie.
