On Saturday, August 12, 2023, the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) held its annual “National Walk for Education” at Veteran’s Park, 1010 N. Lincoln Memorial Dr. The “National Walk for Education” is a nationwide initiative to raise the critical funds for UNCF needs to fulfill its mission of support to its member Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s); help students pursue their educational endeavors; and prepared for active participation in society. The recent Supreme Court rulings on affirmative action and student loan debt—two critical issues facing students of color—made this event even more crucial. This year’s event leaders were former Miss Milwaukee Jada Davis (who also served as the Grand Marshal); Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson; and UNCF Midwest Regional Development Director Christal H. Stinson.
