On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, SHARP Literacy’s STEAM-based educational program, partnered with several other area Milwaukee schools to create a large-scale mural entitled, “Helping Hands” which was unveiled in a special ceremony in the historic Bronzeville neighborhood, 2209 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Dr. Community Artist Vedale Hill led the public art project, which included the participation of fourth and fifth grade students from Augustine Prep, Kluge Elementary School, Rogers Street Academy and Swallow Elementary School. Hill guided the students in the painting of wooden hands in a symbolic way, focusing on elements that relate to their own communities such as support, strength and generosity.
