Mayor Barrett unveils new street mural project on Hopkins Street

July 23, 2015

DSC_1928

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, with street mural artist Ammar Nsoroma directly to his left, participates in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the unveiling of a street mural at 1503 W. Hopkins St. The project was sponsored in part by Artists Working in Education (AWE) and Wisconsin Bike Fed. Approximately two dozen young adults in grades 5 through 8 participated, preparing the street surface for paint, cutting out stencils and the actual painting. The project was held in conjunction with a “Safe Routes to School Bike Camp,” a twoweek bike safety course. The mural is composed of Adinkra symbols of West Africa. A major thunderstorm blew in overnight, but fortunately the rain held off until organizers could cover the mural
