Two sisters struck by a speeding car while celebrating a birthday; community demands action against dangerous driving on Milwaukee’s streets.
A double tragedy hit one Milwaukee family late Saturday, September 21, 2024. A speeding car hit two sisters while they crossed N. 76th Street near W. Good Hope Road.
The hit-and-run crash killed 20-year-old Talise Dunmore. Her 23-year-old sister, De-Lisha, survived.
According to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s report, investigators estimate the driver to be going 80 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone.
Mohamed Odeh manages Furniture Land near the intersection. Surveillance cameras there caught the crash on video.”
“When I saw that video, I couldn’t speak for 10 minutes. I just had the process what I’d seen,” Odeh said.
“No brakes. They were going,” Odeh said.
The Dunmore family was too heartbroken to go on camera Monday, September 23, 2024 but told WISN 12 News the pair were best friends, having a night out together.
Odeh said the two likely parked in his lot and looked to be heading toward the lounge across the street.
According to the medical examiner’s report, Talise wore a black romper and pink sandals. Odeh’s surveillance camera shows the two matching that description walking toward the street moments before the crash.
“That was horrible to see how happy they were going to have fun as sisters. Especially when I heard that. No words,” Odeh said.
Police said they later arrested a 34-year-old. Investigators found a white Acura miles away from the crash scene with a dented hood and hair on the front bumper and windshield.
Odeh said Saturday’s crash was just one example of the reckless driving he regularly sees on the street outside his store.
“It’s craziness,” Odeh said. “It’s like a zoo. Animals everywhere. And that’s the best way to describe it.”
His cameras captured another crash at the end of May. One car crashed into the store’s window, and a second burst into flames.
“Have you ever seen anything like what we saw over the weekend?” WISN 12 News reporter Kendall Keys asked.
“Not like this. Like I said, we’ve had someone crash in the building and it was nowhere near what I seen,” Odeh said.
Police said charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
