On Saturday July 27, 2019, the Grasslyn Manor neighborhood block watch members, along with city officials and local police, marched over to 60th and Capitol Drive as part of Operation Take it EZ. This event was the kick-off for the Take it EZ Milwaukee anti-reckless driving initiative.
The group wrapped the light pole with caution tape, and placed yard signs in median strips, church yards and businesses to get the word out about driving safety. The intersection of N. 60th St and W. Capitol Dr., the site of the initiative launch, is where Milwaukee Police Officer Kou Her was killed by a reckless driver on June 18.
The project will stretch over three months and will include increased monitoring by Milwaukee Police, a public information campaign and strong involvement by members of the community, including neighborhood groups, associations and youth organizations.
