On Saturday, August 12, 2023, King Advisory Inc., Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Community Center, and Park and Milwaukee County Parks presented the “28th Annual Together Once Again: Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Back to School Festival,” Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Park, 1531 W. Vliet Street. This family friendly event featured lots of free book bags, school supplies, hot dogs and burgers, games and prizes, bouncy house, great music and relay races.
King Advisory Inc. President Nori Carter said “according to the National Retail Federation, consumers are projected to spend a record $41 billion on back-to-school this year. Families with children in elementary through high school are projected to spend an average of $890 on back-to-school shopping in 2023. And that is why 28 years later we are still doing free book bags and school supplies. The cost keeps going up for families and the economy has not bounced back.”
Carter expressed her gratefulness and appreciation to all of the sponsors including Forest County Potawatomi, Chris Abele, Milwaukee County Parks, Milwaukee County of Equity, Northcott Neighborhood House, Lorraine P. Carter Family Services, Gruber Law Offices, Milwaukee Public Schools, WC’s Rhythm & Blues, TJ’s on 35th Street, Catfish Lounge, Crown Hardware & Plumbing Supply, Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Tastee Twist, Pete’s Food Market, Homer Blow Foundation, #1 Stunnas MSC, Redliners MC, Williamson Funeral Home, and DreamBikes.
