On Saturday, November 4, 2023, more than 1,100 Milwaukee-area business and community leaders, including many area CEOs, came together to attend the Greater Milwaukee Urban League’s (GMUL) Black and White Ball, which featured a performance by Grammy-nominated R&B and jazz singer Patrice Rushen.
The sold-out event was held at the Baird Center in downtown Milwaukee. Rushen performed for about an hour. Her 1982 single, “Forget Me Nots,” received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
The annual Black and White Ball began 38 years ago as a venue for the Greater Milwaukee Urban League to bring together a cross-section of business and community leaders and representatives across race, gender, and religion for an elegant evening of fun, entertainment, dancing and fellowship. According to its website, the Greater Milwaukee Urban League believes “genuine change and urban economic empowerment occur through diverse partnerships, collaborative efforts, and an equitable playing field.”
The event’s theme was “Strong Partners, Strong Communities.” During the event, the group highlighted successful programs made possible by the support of Greater Milwaukee Urban League partners.
