
On Thursday, March 13, 2025, The Greater Milwaukee Urban League (GMUL) hosted its prestigious Whitney M. Young, Jr., Equal Opportunity Day Awards Luncheon at the Pfister Hotel, 424 E. Wisconsin Ave. Celebrating outstanding individuals and organizations championing the mission and vision of “Empowering Communities, and Changing Lives” in the Milwaukee community. This year’s highest honor, the Whitney M. Young Jr. Award, was presented to Ralph Hollmon, who served as president and chief executive officer of the Milwaukee Urban League from 2002 to 2017.

Other honorees included Clarence Nicholas who received the Civic Engagement and Social Justice Award; Dr. Demond Means, Dr. Wesley L. Scott Dedication To Education Award; Peggy Williams-Smith of Visit Milwaukee; Marty Brooks of the Wisconsin Center District and ThriveOn King/ThriveOn Collaboration, who received the Economic Impact Award; Spectrum who received the Corporate Advocacy Champion Award; Chandra Cooper of Grateful Girls, Inc., who received the Community Advocacy Champion; HYFIN Culture x Design; who received the Community Impact Award; WNOV 860 received the Media Champion Award; MICAH; Sherman Park Grocery and Gee’s Clippers who all received the Health Advocacy Award; Nicholas Truog and Lauren Feaster of Professional Dimensions who received the Young Professionals Making a Difference Award; Cynthia Stokes-Murray and Jasmine Johnson who received the Be the Change Award; and Fredrick Robinson of Greenwood Park Gallery who received the Entrepreneur of the Year.
