
On Saturday, May 3, 2025, City at Peace in the Arts (CAPITA) Productions hosted its 3rd annual “We Are The Drum” awards and scholarship brunch.” This event is an extension of its annual stage production, “We Are The Drum.” Earl Ingram, a board member of CAPITA and popular radio talk show host (WAUK 540-AM), served as emcee. The event committee members were event chair Cora Lee-Palmer; CAPITA’s Executive Director Kevin “KC” Williams; Rhulene Artis, BilliJo Saffold, Robin Simpson, and Earl Ingram. During the brunch, “We Are The Drum” awardees and scholarship recipients are recognized. This year’s recipient of the Arlene Skwierawski Scholarship was Antonio Randolph (second row, right photo), a graduating senior of Milwaukee Marshall High School. Other honorees at the event included Dr. Janie Hill Hatton for her Prolific Academic Administration; James Beckum (presented posthumously) the Life Legacy Award; Gaulien “Gee” Smith for Community Leadership and Empowerment; Dr. Howard Fuller for Enduring and Innovative Academic Administration; Clinton Rose Senior Center for Seniors’ Mobilization, Wellness, and Vitalization; Columbia Savings and Loan for the Community Builders Award; and special supporters Dan Herda; Dr. Donald A. (PhD, MDiv) and Nancy L.Tubesing.
