The Black Male Achievement Advisory Council, which is comprised of local elected officials and community leaders, met on Monday, May 19, 2014 in the Garden Homes Square Park, 2600 W. Atkinson Ave., to report on the work the committee has done and its future direction. Keynote speaker, First District Ald. Ashanti Hamilton said, “The City of Milwaukee over the last five years has been at the very bottom of every national study around the conditions of black people in particular. But some of the ownership for these conditions the community must accept.” Hamilton stated that action needs to be taken to improve the condition in the city and that help need to come from sources both inside the city and within the state. The co-chairs of the committee are Mayor Tom Barrett and State Senator Nikiya Harris.
