The 37th Annual Black Excellence Awards Program was held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Brown Deer.
Twelve high school seniors were awarded scholarships from the Louvenia Johnson Scholarship Foundation. The students were also presented laptops from Dr. Eve Hall of the Greater Milwaukee Urban League (GMUL). Dr. Hall is a former educator with Milwaukee Public Schools and former executive director of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Foundation, and a long time supporter and sponsor of the Black Excellence Awards.
Besides the scholarship winners, the Black Excellence Awards also honored twelve local individuals for their professional or life achievements. Since this was the first Black Excellence since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the honorees for this year were all front line workers.
