On Thursday, July 21, 2016 The Milwaukee Urban League and
the Milwaukee Times Black Excellence Awards committee hosted
a check presentation to the 2016 Louvenia Johnson Scholarship
recipients. This year The Milwaukee Times with generous
donations from WISN Channel 12, Reid’s New Golden Gate Funeral
Home, Robert W. Baird and Co., Johnson Controls, Northwestern
Mutual, Gruber Law Offices, We Energies Foundation,
Milwaukee Business Journal, Hupy and Abraham, S.C., and Columbia
Savings and Loan Association were able to give a scholarship
and laptop to nine area students. The laptops were awarded
the night of the Black Excellence Awards, but the actual checks
were presented on Thursday at the Milwaukee Urban League
