Community Leaders Support UNCF Annual Walk for Education

Some of Milwaukee’s leading businesses are lending support to local college students by sponsoring the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Milwaukee Walk for Education. The “42nd Annual Walk for Education,” is Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Veteran’s Park, on Milwaukee’s Lakefront at 9 a.m. The famous Milwaukee Brewers’ Racing Sausages will kick off the walk when it begins at 9:30 a.m. The event money raised directly empowers students and helps strengthen our nation’s HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). This annual event ensures that more students get to and through college.
“We appreciate the support of so many of Milwaukee’s corporate leaders,” said Tawanna Streater, Vice President of Development – Midwest Division for UNCF. “Their support of UNCF’s mission of providing scholarships, internships, and other resources to help students graduate from college is impactful on multiple levels. Many of these sponsors are long-time supporters of UNCF and we appreciate their continuing partnership. It brings hope to our young people and our community.”
Sponsors for the event include Northwestern Mutual, Rockwell Automation, Brewers Community Foundation, SC Johnson, We Energies, Versiti, and U.S. Bank.
Partner organizations have provided in-kind support. UNCF Milwaukee Walk for Education partners are The Truth radio station, WNOV radio, The Milwaukee Courier, The Milwaukee Times Weekly Newspaper, Nouvelle Marketing, WISN-12, MY24/CW18, Thrive-On King, JobsWork MKE, and Milwaukee County Parks.
Community organizations volunteering to support the event include The Links, Inc. Cream City Chapter, Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., PRC Jr. Hostesses, and Debs.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson is the UNCF Milwaukee Walk for Education Grand Champion. Joining the event as emcees are WISN-12 anchors Diana Gutierrez and Gerron Jordan. Jordan’s support for UNCF is personal. He is a graduate of Howard University, one of the nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
