Milwaukee Area Technical College will hold a “Media and Creative Arts Industry Forum,” followed by a “Portfolio Night” event, which showcases student work, on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Downtown Milwaukee Campus.
The forum, sponsored by Creative Alliance Milwaukee (CAM) and MATC, is an opportunity for networking and discussion by industry professionals. Held on the third floor of the Student Center, 700 W. State St., participants can network from 3-3:30 p.m., followed by a panel discussion on “The State of the Creative Landscape in Milwaukee” from 3:30-4:30 p.m. CAM is an economic development initiative to link, leverage, promote and grow the creative industries in the greater Milwaukee region.
Maggie Kuhn Jacobus, president/executive director of CAM, will serve as keynote speaker and moderator. Other panelists include Asif Bakar, CEO and founder, Xorbix Technologies, Inc.; Lyn Falk, CEO and founder, RetailWorks, Inc.; Susan Kerns, education director, Milwaukee Film; Joe Poeschl, co-founder and chief creative officer, Startup Milwaukee; Matt Richardson, founder and CEO, SmartWave; and Heidi Witz, co-founder, Plaid Tuba. The fee for the networking and panel discussion is $10.
From 4:30-6 p.m., forum participants and other industry representatives are invited to review a showcase of portfolios and career-ready skills by students. Most of these students will graduate from MATC associate degree and technical diploma programs this semester. Portfolios will be displayed on the sixth floor of the Main Building, 1015 N. 6th St.
The free event will showcase work of students from 16 MATC programs – animation, biotechnology, chemical technician, computer simulation and gaming, culinary arts, electronic technology-automation, entrepreneurship, graphic design, IT programmer analyst-mobile application developer, IT programmer/analyst-social networking and business communications, meeting and event management, music occupations, photography, special event management diploma, television and video production, and visual communications/computer graphics.
Members of the public are invited to view the portfolios from 6-8 p.m.
