MEP is looking for opportunities for HBCU graduates

September 19, 2024

“Dear Readers of The Milwaukee Times:

“The Milwaukee Education Partnership (MEP) seeks to expand the pipeline of professional opportunities in Southeastern Wisconsin for graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

“America’s HBCU institutions have been at the forefront of preparing African American professionals, especially educators, engineers, physicians, dentists and nurses. For example, more than fifty percent of the African American engineers in the United States are prepared at six HBCU’s.

“Howard University and Meharry Medical School and their partners continue to prepare nearly thirty percent of the nation’s African American physicians and dentists.

“Over a third of the African American educators in the United States are prepared at HBCUs institutions.

“While most HBCUs institutions are in the southern and eastern United States, their alumni, faculty and programs have had significant international impacts. Wisconsin does not have an HBCUs but we have many current students, active alums and engaged supporters of HBCUs.

“Since 2016 the MEP has promoted HBCU SUNDAY. This year’s celebration is presented in collaboration with the Milwaukee Times newspaper and sponsored by Pawn America, a respected community retailer. The Milwaukee Education Partnership encourages you and your faith community/congregation to celebrate HBCUs Sunday on October 6, 2024 by allowing a few moments during your Sunday services to recognize and honor the importance of HBCU institutions to the success of African Americans. Please identify a member of your congregation to briefly speak to the proud heritage of HBCUs. It may be an alumnus, benefactor, current or former student, parent, or staff member.

“Your participation in this endeavor will help to remind others of the significant contributions that HBCUs institutions make to the building of middle class America. You may contact the MEP for further information or guidance at mepwisc.org.

“Let’s make this celebration the most successful yet!”

– The Milwaukee Education Partnership
