On Saturday, July 13, 2024, Vera LeBlance’s family hosted an Afternoon Tea in her honor to celebrate her 102nd birthday. Her guests shared their favorite teas and enjoyed scrumptious finger sandwiches catered by Deco Catering Co. and delightful desserts and pastries from Bernadette’s Bakery.
Vera is known for wearing hats when dressed up for special occasions, community events, and Sunday mornings. She always looks beautiful, and exudes class and sophistication…she is known to stands out in a crowd. Vera’s guests were treated to a presentation entitled “The Lady and Her Hats”. It showed her as lady who wore her hats as a badge of femininity… her hats made the difference between being dressed and being dressed up; between looking adequate and looking her best. Her personality, mood, and even her level of confidence was conveyed through the hats she wore.
At the age of 102, Vera greeted her guests from Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, the North Central Service Club, her family and very close friends. She was dressed in a beautiful white dress, gloves and of course, a fabulous fascinator. She proudly took her seat with her head held high, and with a smile on her face. She looked fashionable, confident and she was very comfortable being the center of attraction.
She is a beautiful role model of a fervent Christian woman, a wonderful mother; a sister who raised her siblings and who continues to be the matriarch of her family. Vera enjoyed her 102nd Birthday Par-Tea and she said, “it was the best birthday celebration ever”…which is just what her family wanted for her.
