On Sunday, June 13, 2021, an appreciation dinner was held at the Masonic Lodge, 4315 N. 92nd Street, in honor of Elder Jesse Reed for all life accomplishments. Elder Reed was known as “Jesse the Butcher,” because he was in the grocery business for 20 years. He then started Reed’s Used Furniture Store, 4909 West Custer Street in 1995 and still runs it to this day. Elder Reed helped start the Juneteenth Day in 1971 and worked with OC White and former Mayor Henry Maier to launch African World Festival. Elder Reed’s dinner was celebrated with a host of family and friends.

“Congratulation Elder Jesse Reed!”
