“Lo, children are a heritage of the Lord, and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”
– Psalm 127:3

This month the Counseling Corner is sharing responses from mothers to the question: “What Have Been Your Greatest Joys of Motherhood?” When sending out the call for submissions, little did this writer expect the vast amount of responses. However, due to the limitations of space, all of the responses could not be published.

This month the entries submitted have been selected on a first-come/first serve basis. All of the entries, however, were down to earth and certainly inspiring and many thanks to all of you.

This week, this writer is honored to share Sabrina Lee’s submission regarding her joys of motherhood. It’s truly a gem and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have.
“If you would have asked me 20 years ago if I wanted to have a child/be a mother the answer would have been a flat out NO! Needless to say I have been a mom for 12 years now and wouldn’t change it for the world! Becoming a mom is one of the best things that has ever happened to me, and I thank GOD for my little blessing everyday.

The first time I saw my little person’s face I was like, ‘wow’ I helped create that beautiful small human being. Who knew you could have such unconditional love for someone you just met. From his first smile, his first tooth, his first bath, to his frist time feeding himself; these were all moments of joy that increased my love for being a mom.
“There is nothing I enjoy more than being a mom, it is the greatest feeling in the world. Being a mom or a parent for that matter is the hardest but most fulfilling job to have.

It is the only job that I look forward to being ’employee of the month’ every month. There are so many positive things that come from being a mother such as altering your lifestyle, changing the way you live and the way you deal with people in your life. The things that use to upset you don’t upset you any more; some of the people you use to hang out with you can’t hang out with any more because they don’t understand you have someone that depends on you now.

Someone who looks up to you and expects you to make responsible adult decisions. I went from being a selfish hothead to a rational, multi-tasking, unconditionally loving person who thinks before acting.

So I guess you can say becoming a mom shifted my life in a positive manner.
“It warms my heart when I hear my child utter the words mom…mama…. or mommy no matter how many unnecessary times he does so. The word “mom” always puts a smile on my face. Children are the biggest blessing you’ll ever receive because they love unconditionally and there’s nothing you can do about it. All the hugs, kisses, and “I love you’s” I receive on a daily basis can instantly uplift my mood. The joys of being a mom shifted my nurturing gears into overdrive, almost to a level unimaginable.

To have the honor of someone calling you mom you have to know you are more than just that; you are a provider, a teacher, a protector, and a unconditionally nurturing soul.
” I never knew how much I would enjoy taking care of someone. I never knew how much I would enjoy someone depending on me. I never knew how much I would enjoy protecting someone. I love being a mom! It is the greatest joy a woman can experience and I’m so glad I changed my mindset about having a child, because my child is my world.”

“A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path.”

– Agatha Christie
