The Salvation Army to offer parenting classes for fathers

January 10, 2019

Courses range from fathering without fear and anger to dealing with substance abuse

The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County, in partnership with Made Men Worldwide Inc., will be offering several courses to help fathers become the best possible fathers they can be. Courses range from fathering without fear and anger to dealing with substance abuse.

The Nurturing Fathers program started January 7, 2019. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Salvation Army’s Citadel Corps, 4129 W. Villard Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53209.

“This program is open for all men, and will specifically benefit men facing domestic violence issues and those who need parenting classes as ordered by Department of Children and Families Services,” said Major Steve Merritt, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army of Wisconsin & Upper Michigan. “Each individual must complete all twelve sessions to graduate from the program. After certification, men will have the potential to become a trained facilitator of the program.”

The topics of the weekly sessions include: Roots of Fathering, Power to Meet Own Needs, Fathering Without Violence and Fear, Overcoming Issues in Fathering, How to Deal with Alcohol and Substance Abuse, and Son vs. Daughter Fathering.
