On Saturday, February 1, 2025, St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care hosted the annual Indaba African Ball at St. Ann Center Bucyrus Campus, 2450 W. North Ave. Guests dressed in African and Caribbean-style attire walked the runway and enjoyed food and festivities at the event, kicking off Black History Month. There was live music, a basket raffle and an African marketplace, to name a few of the activities at the ball. The main event of the evening, however, was the introduction of the 2025 Hall of History Maker Honorees. They included Anthony “Tony” Courtney, the founder of several nonprofit organizations; Bashir Easter, Ph.D., a scholar, entrepreneur and community leader who works to improve the quality of life for people of color; Dee McCollum, who has been director of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Community Center for 13 years; and Melody McCurtis, lead organizer and deputy of Metcalfe Park Community Bridges. The 2025 Indaba African Ball supports the Indaba Band Shell and its upcoming summer season of family-friendly entertainment.
