On Thursday, January 13, 2022, the Milwaukee Press Club (MPC) and WisPolitics.com jointly hosted Police Chief Jeffrey Norman as featured speaker at their Newsmaker Luncheon at the Newsroom Pub, 137 E. Wells Street. Norman was named acting police chief in December 2020 and named Chief of Police in November 2021, wrapping up a year of turmoil over the city’s top law enforcement position.
Chief Norman talked about his new role and vision for the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD), including his community outreach and goals to address reckless driving and violent crime in the city. With more than 190 homicides in 2021, Milwaukee has broken the murder rate for the second year in a row.
Chief Norman took questions from a panel of journalists and from the audience at the luncheon. The panel consisted of Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Elliot Hughes, Fox 6 WITI’s Aaron Maybin, and WISN-TV’s Hilary Mintz.
The MPC hosts the Newsmaker Lunch hour series every month.
