Hours after the Milwaukee Common Council unanimously approved hosting the 2024 Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, Mayor Cavalier Johnson (right) signed a tentative legislative deal at a press conference for the Republican National Convention to meet in Milwaukee in 2024. Milwaukee and Nashville, TN are currently in final contention to be the 2024 host city which would totally transform Milwaukee as a hospitality destination, according to Gerard Randall (at podium), a Republican Party of Wisconsin vice chairman and coordinator of the prospective Milwaukee RNC host committee who also made brief remarks at the press conference. Organizers said hosting the conference would add more hotel and convention space downtown and could bring in an additional $250 million in economic benefits. The decision represented a swift turnaround after a committee of the Common Council delayed a vote on an agreement with the RNC last week. “We continued to work on it collaboratively and got the deal done,” said Mayor Johnson when asked what caused the council to change its mind. A final decision on the 2024 host city is expected by the RNC by the end of June, according to information presented at the press conference.
