Milwaukee celebrates a new holiday, while remembering tragic events from this past year

November 24, 2015

Two-year-old Taylor Vaughn is held underneath the newly lighted Christmas tree at Red Arrow Park by her grandmother, Shirley (left), on November 19. At right is Taylor’s mother, Toyia. Cold and blustery winds did not seem to hurt attendance for the 102nd City/County ceremony which included music from local choirs and brief remarks by Mayor Tom Barrett. The ceremony was briefly interrupted at the start when police arrested five members of Coalition for Justice who were protesting a U.S. Department of Justice decision not to prosecute the former police officer who shot Dontre Hamilton in the park in April
