LIGHT THE HOAN! The Hoan Bridge came to life as our community celebrated Kwanzaa on its First Day, Sunday, December 26, 2021, at 642 East Erie Street. The first principle of Kwanzaa honors “UMOJA,” which means to strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race. The Lighting of the Hoan Bridge Kwanzaa Celebration is a collaboration with Carmen A. Murguia, Wisconsin African American Women’s Center President Josephine D. Moutry Hill, Wisconsin Black Historical Society Museum Founding Director Clayborn Benson III, Lynda Jackson Conyers, Yvonne Kemp, and Africans On The Move. The first night of the Lighting of the Hoan Bridge for Kwanzaa was proudly sponsored by the Greater Milwaukee Urban League President and CEO Dr. Eve M. Hall.
