On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, history was made, though not the kind many were hoping for. In a stunning turn of events, Republican former President Donald Trump re-won the office of President of the United States over current Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris who had entered the race for President late in the election season and generated a lot of hype and excitement, was not able to turn that into tangible votes at the polls. That allowed Trump an early lead in the polls and created a gap in electoral votes that she could not overcome. But Democrats didn’t only lose control of the White House; they also lost three seats in the Senate, which coast them control of the Senate to Republicans. As for control for the House (as of this writing) Republicans are in the lead with 201 seats, just 17 short for control. Whether or not Trump’s return will be positive and productive remains to be seen.
