More than 80 members of the community attended a talk by award-winning author Patricia McClure-Chessier, MBA, MPA, (2nd row sixth from left), who was the keynote speaker at St. Mark A.M.E. Church on March 15 for “Creating Connections: Partners in Hope,” a workshop and luncheon for families impacted by dementia. The event was presented by the Alzheimer’s Association, Wisconsin Chapter. McClure-Chessier, from Chicago, Illinois, is the author of “Losing a Hero to Alzheimer’s” and “Dementia: Nine Key Principles.” She shared details of how she became estranged from members of her family after she became the caregiver for her mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s. Attendees also participated in a State Dementia Plan Survey. Special guests at the event included Sen. Lena Taylor; Hope DeVougas, a representative from Rep. Gwen Moore’s office; and the Hon. Charles Clevert, Wisconsin’s first African American federal judge, now retired.
