Five key ways to spring into a healthy lifestyle

Spring is my favorite season of the year! It’s a time when the flowers bloom, the weather is warmer, and the grass is green and beautiful. Spring is also a time to focus on our health and wellness. This spring I want to share with you five keys ways to spring into a healthy lifestyle. These tips can be used all year long, but the bloom season is the perfect time to start.

Detox

Detoxing is a good way to help get your body clean along with the house spring cleaning. If you want to get rid of all the toxins and waste in your body, start with a simple detox drink. Drinking a cup in the morning will allow you to absorb nutrients quickly, get your digestive system moving, and improve your quality of life!

1 cup water.
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar.
2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger, or ground ginger.
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon.
1 dash cayenne pepper.
1 teaspoon raw honey (optional)

Eat clean

Clean eating is all about being mindful of the origin of your food and ensuring that it is as close to its natural state as possible. It is about consuming tons of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans, fish, seafood and clean meats.

When we fuel our body with whole, unprocessed foods we provide it with the nutrients it needs to function at its best. In turn, we look and feel better. We sleep better, our skin is better, and we have more energy. Start your clean eating with the foods you like and then introduce new food as you go.

Spend more time outdoors

As the days get longer and the weather is warmer, spend more time outdoors. Enjoy time in the sun, walking, running, riding your bike or just sitting on the stoop reading a book. Studies show that spending time in green spaces— such as a garden or a city park—has been linked to improvements in heart health, lower stress levels, and even a longer life span. It is also proven that sun can release hormones that make you feel good.

Take a class

Spring is the perfect time to take a dance class, yoga class or even a meditation class. This will help decrease stress, but it will also help you with building new relationships. It’s important to try new things you haven’t tried before.

I recently took a water aerobics class and it was so much fun. It was also a great way to meet new people. Another great thing to do is take a creative class. Like painting, singing, sewing or photography. This is another way to relieve stress and meet new and exciting people.

Travel

Travel is a great way to spring into a healthy lifestyle. When you travel you not only experience new places but you meet new people. Recently I went to the Caribbean and I had such a great time. I was able to eat healthily, stay active, snorkel, meet new people and burn a lot of calories. Travel will also keep you moving and seeking new and exciting adventures.

Spring is truly that time of year to re-commit to your health. It’s a great time to make a start now and then by the time the winter comes it will be routine. Spring into better health and you fulfill a better quality life.
