On Thursday, August 6, 2026, the Welding Job Training program at North Division High School, 1011 West Center Street celebrated the completion of its second summer class. The program was initiated through a collaborative effort involving the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) Recreation Department (MKE Rec), Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) Workforce Development Solution, and the George Gerharz North Division High School Alumni and Friends, Inc.

Plans are in place to renovate the welding, dental and Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience Labs (CAN labs) at the school. These renovations aim to provide local job training opportunities for both adults and students. The North Division High School students will have access to these labs for training during regular school hours, similar to the certification program offered by other high schools in the area.

Community leaders are encouraged to support these initiatives foster economic growth and job security. The program acknowledges the contributions of various individuals and organizations, including Dr. Howard Fuller, MKE Rec Eddie Goodwin, Helen Harris, Margaret Todd, William Clay, NAACP National Board of Directors member Wendell Harris, Sam Williams, Lamont Walker, Ruth Calvin, Gregory Buck, and the Milwaukee Times Weekly Newspaper owner, Reverend Harold Turner and Staff.
