On Thursday, August 7, 2025, the Adult Welding Job Training program at North Division High School, 1011 W. Center St., celebrated the completion of the most recent class. The program was initiated through a collaborative effort involving the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) Recreation Department (MKE Rec), Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) Workforce Development Solution, and the George Gerharz North Division High School Alumni and Friends, Inc. This program is open to adults aged 18 and older.
Plans are in place to renovate the welding, dental, and Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience Labs (CAN labs) at the school. These renovations aim to provide local job training opportunities for both adults and students. The North Division High School students will have access to these labs for training during regular school hours, similar to the certification program offered by other high schools in the area.
Community leaders are encouraged to support these initiatives to foster economic growth and job security. The program acknowledges the contributions of various individuals and organizations, including Dr. Howard Fuller, Elton Gillie, Beverly Lewis Moses, Milwaukee Urban League Teacher Margaret Todd, William Clay, MKE Rec Recreation Coordinator Matthew Goodwin, NAACP National Board of Directors member Wendell Harris, Sam Williams, and Milwaukee Times Weekly Newspaper owner Rev. Harold Turner, Sr.
