Mayor Tom Barrett to strictly enforce 10 p.m. Milwaukee teen curfew

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee teens had better make sure they get home Monday night.
Mayor Tom Barrett announced Monday that there will be a strict enforcement of the 10 p.m. curfew for all teens in the city.
The curfew is in response to two nights of violence in the Sherman Park neighborhood. Protesters have been gathering near the spot where Sylville K. Smith was fatally shot by a police officer Saturday evening.
“This is not the place where you go to gawk, it is not the place where you go to take pictures, it is not the place to drive your car around,” Barrett said at a morning news conference.

“Those individuals in my mind are deliberately trying to damage a great neighborhood and a great city.”
Milwaukee County Sheriff also announced Monday morning that Sherman Park, located at 3000 N. Sherman Blvd., will be closed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. effective immediately and until further notice.
Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn said there were 14 arrests Sunday night. Eleven adult males and three adult females were charged with disorderly conduct.
Three squads cars damaged, along with reports of bricks being thrown through windows.
A car was set on fire, along with numerous dumpster fires and a couch fire, Flynn said.
An 18-year-old male suffered a gunshot wound, but the injury is not believed to be life-threatening.
Flynn said seven officers were injured, mainly from bricks and rocks thrown by protesters.
