At I.D.E.A.L. School on December 16, 2022, students heard messages of how success is earned through hard work. Marquette basketball legend and retired NBA player Maurice “Bo” Ellis shared inspiring stories from college, sports, and life. Ellis stated that he believes in the power of youth and serves as a coach to children on and off the court.
While at Marquette University, Ellis was captain of the 1977 men’s NCAA championship basketball team and was MVP in 1975 and 1977, playing under coaches Al McGuire and Hank Raymonds. He played three years in the NBA and later in Europe. Ellis also spent a number of years serving as a talent scout for the Milwaukee Bucks.
Ellis enjoys traveling to schools to share his message about why school and good attendance are important. I.D.E.A.L. was his third school visit during the Fall 2022 semester. Ahead of the event, he sent a delivery of Marquette winter caps to the school as a memento of the visit.
Students were excited to hear from the basketball legend and took his message to heart, with a number of children pledging to work hard in school.
