New holiday tradition supports local communities

As the end of the year approaches, a group of area nonprofits is launching Early Giving Day, a campaign that celebrates caring for our communities before the rush of holiday shopping.
Set for Tuesday, November 25, Early Giving Day falls one week before Giving Tuesday, which traditionally follows Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. Before the hustle and bustle of the traditional shopping weekend, Early Giving Day invites everyone to take a moment to reflect on the needs of our community and to care for one another.
More than 25 nonprofits aim to create a new tradition that strengthens the community by encouraging people to give earlier in the season and to give where they live.
Lindsey St. Arnold Bell, Executive Director of Near West Side Partners, shared:
“As we prepare for the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, Early Giving Day provides a meaningful opportunity to reflect and express your value and gratitude for the many gifts we have here in Milwaukee. Near West Side Partners is proud to be a part of Early Giving Day and grateful for the businesses, individuals, and community members who generously share their time, talents, and treasure in support of our neighborhood of neighborhoods.”
Nick Matuszewski, Associate Executive Director of WAVE Educational Fund added:
“Wisconsinites take care of each other. We shovel our neighbor’s driveway, we deliver food when someone is sick, and we support organizations that strengthen our communities. That’s what Early Giving Day is about. As WAVE works to prevent gun violence across our state, we are proud to unite with other organizations doing important work to create a stronger, safer Wisconsin.”
