Grace – American Legion Post 455 in Milwaukee
presented Emmitt Williams(center) the Judge Advocate
of Corporal Cornice D. Grace – American
Legion Post 455, with the American Legion certificate
for 65 years of continuous membership. Williams
is 95 years old and a veteran of World War
II. Williams was drafted into the Army Air Corps in
1942 where he was assigned to the 838th Engineer
Aviation Battalion, exclusively manned by African
American soldiers, as a construction engineer at
MacDill Field, FL. After basic training he was promoted
to Corporal and shipped out with the 838th
to build temporary and semi-permanent airfields
and aircraft hangers in North Africa and Italy.
