On Saturday, March 24, 2018, African American Ladies Empowering Growth and Opportunity (A-LEGO) hosted its annual full council meeting to discus its success from the past year and its goals for this one. As part of its meeting and to celebrate Women’s History Month, A-LEGO honored 25 members who helped to make our community great.

Pictured are 13 of those 25 including (inset) photographer Yvonne Kemp; (back row, from left) Fox 6 Now news anchor Beverly Taylor, TMJ4 news anchor Carole Meekins; Shelia Payton; Alderwoman Chantia Lewis; Karen Wisner Baker; Charlotte J. Ghazarian, Lorraine Hightower; (front row, from left) State Senator LaTonya Johnson (6th District); LaToya Sykes; State Senator Lena Taylor (4th District); Synovia Moss; and Sandra Jones. A-LEGO’s mission is to help renew the community of Milwaukee by bridging the new world of ideas into action; to deepen the understanding of issues that must be resolved; and to achieve racial and ethical equity as our society moves through the great transformation of the 21st century. The group consists of approximately 100 African American women, who are cutting edge thinkers, academicians, business leaders, high-level government representatives, social service executives, and key community advocates who are dedicated to activating sweeping change in the community. The group was founded by Hattie Daniels-Rush.
