Real Time, the dance and performance series created and curated by Andrea and Daniel Burkholder, takes the stage in the Community Room at the Urban Ecology Center, 1500 E. Park Place, at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Dance artist Dawn Springer and composer-musician Jon Mueller will be part of the performance, with beverages and conversation to follow. If you haven’t seen them yet this winter, you might have heard them, but Milwaukee’s owls are definitely out there. Learn more about the wintry predators by taking one of the Wehr Nature Center’s Owl Prowls, 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Whitnall Park center, 9701 W. College Ave., Franklin. This weekend’s wanderings in search of owls are aimed at adults; family-center walks are on the schedule at the center for next weekend. Admission is $12, $10 for Milwaukee County residents, $7 for friends of Wehr. (Parking is $3.)

The Milwaukee County Zoo, 10001 W. Blue Mound Road, has another free-admission day Saturday, so you can check out the animals’ winter digs, some of which are indoors. Although the $12 parking fee is still in effect, it’s still one of January’s better deals.

If more winter walks were on your resolutions list, consider joining the Family Snowshoe at Schlitz Audubon Nature Center Saturday at 9 a.m. Snowshoes are provided (though they might not fit the youngest walkers among your party). The Brewcity Bruisers start the 2017 season of roller-derby action at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena, 400 W. Kilbourn Ave., at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Rushin’ Rollettes take on the Crazy Eights, followed by a bout between the Shevil Knevils and Maiden Milwaukee. Tickets are $18, $15 for kids, seniors and members of the military.
