The Mother’s Day Wellness Conference on May 14, 2023 at the Lois and Tom Dolan Community Center in Brown Deer included a continental buffet, comedy routines, motivational talks, self-care, vendor booths, a raffle and a surprise visit during the fashion show from Dr. LaToya K. Williams (upper photo), the 2022 Elite Ms. Wisconsin Earth pageant winner. The event was attended by about 50 guests and was sponsored by Our Daily Bread Community Outreach Center, Inc. It also featured several mothers whose businesses helped support the event.

Our Daily Bread (ODB) is a faith-based center established “to inspire, motivate, and guide youth, young adults and mothers in making healthy decisions.” ODB has the opportunity to share the formula for success in life and provide the tools needed to break away from unhealthy behaviors such as gangs, teen pregnancy, peer pressure, and substance abuse.
The Mother’s Day Wellness Conference included Blueprint of Fun, a 360-degree photo booth owned by sisters Tana Tyler, Tiara Cooper, and Tequila Cooper (2nd from bottom photo, from left). Tequila said she and her sisters are trying to “have fun” with the business and did not mind working on Mother’s Day. Blueprint of Fun is available for events such as birthday parties, community gatherings, weddings and private events.
Mary Franklin and her daughter, Marijah, had three businesses featured at the Wellness Conference: Can-D Events & Designs, LLC, provided balloon sculptures, place settings and centerpiece arrangements; M.A.D. (Mother and Daughter Inspirational Covering), had a vendor booth. M.A.D. provides inspirational knowledge, experience-based conversation and other support services; and the two also helped staff another vendor booth for Chorus Community Health where Mary is a community engagement officer. In addition to these three jobs, Mary said she also has two others, another part-time job and a full-time one. “Working on Mother’s Day feels kind of normal, I guess,” she said smiling beside her daughter.
