An introduction to Roxie Hendon: Real estate agent, title closer, sales agent and educator

May 18, 2023

I am a Milwaukee native who grew up in what is considered one of the worst zip codes for black families in the country-53206. I was raised in a two-parent, blended household with my mom and stepfather. Their love for real estate built financial wealth for our family with my parents eventually acquiring 22 properties and retiring in their early 50’s. I learned my love for real estate and building generational wealth from my mom’s mom who was a housewife and worked ironing clothes to create an income. My grandmother used her earrings and bought 44 acres of land in Florida. I quickly learned how real estate investing and home ownership was the engine my parents used to create financial wealth and assisting our community with providing adequate and affordable housing to low-income residents of Milwaukee.

After I grew up and began living on my own, my parents gifted me the down payment to purchase my first home. I saved so much money with my mortgage payment being way less than the rent that I had been paying; plus I was building up personal wealth through the value of the home I was buying. Eventually I used some of the equity I had built up in my home to get a loan and acquire my first investment property. At this time, I was studying at Alverno College to earn my B.A. in Business Management. I knew I wanted to take this education and follow in my parents’ footsteps by owning or operating a real estate firm. Over the years I received additional training in the areas of real estate sales, appraisal, property management, title closing and property development.

I spent years networking, connecting with local agencies, assisting with providing adequate housing in distressed neighbors of Milwaukee and assisting with combating chronic homelessness. I assist individuals with home ownership, real estate investing, building portfolios, and most importantly, creating generational wealth. I’m passionate about teaching, consulting, coaching, and supporting our community. I grew my business through word of mouth and assisting one investor at a time in finding creative ways to acquire real estate, achieve home ownership, obtaining the right investment properties and manage them, and creative strategic ways to generate revenue using their properties. Now I plan on using this monthly column to connect with my community and to assist individuals over come the historic obstacles that have prevented black families from creating generational wealth through home equity.
