W.S. Banks was born on August 17, 1936 to the union of Mrs. Martha Banks and Mr. Glover Banks, Sr. in Sallis, Mississippi. He was the sixth of ten children. W.S. received his formal education at New Banyon School and Sallis Junior High School.
