On Monday, January 21, 2019, the Wisconsin Black Historical Museum hosted the 18th Annual King Fest Celebration at the Museum, 2620 W. Center St. The event included vendors, video presentations, drumming performances, spoken word poetry, songs and praise dances. There were also a number of guest speakers, including 6th District Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs; and keynote speaker author, historian, psychologist, archivist and professor Dr. Ray Winbush (aka Tikari Bioko). As part of the celebration, the 18th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Writing Contest winners were also announced. Each of the three winners received $500 scholarships.
