On Thursday, June 22, 2023, the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors recognized and honored Janette Mitchell-Herrera for her longtime activism as a historian, scholar, author, and educator. She has played a pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement.
Mitchell-Herrera is known for advocating for the rights of marginalized communities throughout her life. Because of her on-going and non-stop efforts, District 13 Milwaukee County Supervisor Priscilla Coggs- Jones acknowledged Mitchell-Herrera for her hard work, commitment, and diligence on Juneteenth Day.
