On Friday, July 11, 2025, the Milwaukee Brewers along with Aurora Healthcare and Social X MKE celebrated the legacy, history and culture of the Negro Leagues, with the Negro League Tribute Game against the Washington Nationals at American Family Field. This year’s celebration acknowledged more than just the contributions of African Americans to the game of baseball; it was also a celebration of black culture. Besides the game there were appearances from former Negro League players, live entertainment, including music by DJ Gemini Gilly; and a R&B performance by Troy Tyler; the National Anthem sung by Lex Crump; Alesia Miller (Soul Brew Kombucha) who provided live music including the Black National Anthem; Marina Murphy (Marina Miranda Creative, LLC) who gave line dancing tutorials; interactive activities; and more than 15 vendors sold wares and providing information. Pictured at the game are (top row, from left) Negro League players Dennis Biddle, Nathan “Sonny” Weston, and Donald Woods; President of Brewers Communty Foundtion Cecelia Gore with the three former Negro League players; Wauwatosa Alderman Sean Lowe who threw out one of the ceremonial pitches, Negro League players Donald Woods and Dennis Biddle holding an award; (second row, from left) Dennis Biddle on the field, Lex Crump, and Jayden Ballard who threw the other ceremonial first pitch; and (middle row, right photo and bottom row photos) Brewers fans enjoying the day’s festivities.
