The Milwaukee Brewers welcomed the start of the 2023 Major League Baseball season with a home opener against the New York Mets on Monday, April 3, 2023, at American Family Field. The Crew hosted New York for a three-game series (April 3-5) and a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals (April 7-9).
As part of the home openers, American Family Field favorite, 14-year-old Liamani Segura, sang the National Anthem for the home opener. The Racine native began singing for the Brewers crowd at the age of 9 and now stars in the Disney+ series, “High School Musical: the Musical: The Series.”
There were also other special guests and events to celebrate the opener including, Rufus King High School and the Milwaukee Hittaz were featured as the opening day drumline for the Brewers. The World Famous B-1 Bomber provided by the 28th Bomb Wing out of Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota performed a pre-game flyover. The ceremonial first pitch was thrown by Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force, Roger Towberman. Also the Festival Foods Play Ball Kid was Kyler Woodruff, son of Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff.
Opening day was the premier of the new J. Leinenkugel’s Barrel Yard. The new restaurant and brewery opened to guests, ready to tap the newest brews unique to American Family Field. To celebrate, fans received a commemorative “Opening Day” aluminum cup with purchase of a beverage. The Barrel Yard is open to all fans in attendance.
But the real celebration was the Brewers winning 10-0 win against the Mets for an exciting start to the season.
